Women Vs Men and Mobile Trends

It is no surprise that people are using their mobile devices to browse the internet. Men and women stumble onto mobile friendly websites, they make lists on mobile apps, they buy Christmas gifts on their mobile apps, and more. the use of mobile devices has been explosive and will continue to rise.

When you market your business, we hope you are marketing with mobile in mind. We hope that you don’t just have a website, but also have a quality mobile friendly website, or a mobile app . . . or both. We hope, also, that you understand how to advertise on mobile friendly websites. Smartphones are on the minds and in the hands of your consumers, so smart businesses are not only going mobile, but marketing based on mobile statistics.

For example, Prosper Mobile Insights conducted a study in the US and discovered a fundamental contrast in how women browse the mobile net versus how men browse the mobile net. The one major difference between these two genders are that women use their smartphones more for email and social networks, while men use their smartphones for email and mobile banking.

But here’s the thing: While there is a difference between how men and women use mobile, there is a striking similarity in terms of mobile advertising. eMarketer.com states: “Smartphone and tablet owners of both genders reported that seeing a mobile ad on a relevant topic was the factor most likely to get them to pay more attention to the ad.”

Prosper’s study also recognizes that men were more likely to pay attention to banner ads that appeared humorous, while women were more likely to ignore all ads including banners, pop-up, and videos. In addition, if men were exposed to a more infrequent amount of ads, they were more likely to pay attention.

US Mobile advertisers are projected to invest $2.3 billion this year, and rightly so since US smartphone users are expected to increase to 116 million and tablet users expected to increase to 55 million. Researching the most up-to-date mobile statistics has proved useful for businesses and their US Mobile advertisers.
